August 2021 Vintner’s Club Release

2020 Sauvignon Blanc
Notes of citrus, melon, lemon, and lime on the nose open up on the palate to a medium-bodied wine bursting with racy zestiness and fruit notes like starfruit, white peach, and grapefruit. It tastes like a sweet tart in a glass!

2019 Chardonnay Reserve
Fermented in second-use barrels, this is one of three distinctively different Delaplane Cellars 2019 Chardonnay wines. All were managed a little differently in the fermentation and aging process to bring out subtle differences. This Reserve Chardonnay exhibits notes of apple, pear, and citrus on the nose that you can taste on the palate as well. But this Chardonnay’s lemon-citrus finish turns to a mild cream thanks to a second, malolactic fermentation in 20% of the barrels.

2019 Mélange Blanc
This is a blend of white wines: 67% Chardonnay, aged in neutral French oak, 22% stainless steel Viognier, and 11% Petit Manseng, aged in neutral French barrels. This well-balanced wine has aromas of fresh peaches and honeysuckle, followed by flavors of citrus, pineapple, pear, and apple. Try this wine with halibut, grilled chicken, or shrimp scampi.

2019 Piedmont Station
This Bordeaux-style blend is made with grapes sourced in the Crooked Run Valley near Delaplane Cellars. On the nose, berry notes are prominent: black, straw, and raspberry with caramel, vanilla, and a hint of smoke. That smoke unfolds more on the palate along with dark fruit, cassis, vanilla, tobacco, and fresh-baked bread on a lingering finish. It is a blend of 66% Cabernet Franc, 16% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Petit Verdot, and 5% Merlot.

2017 Tannat
Winner of a 2021 Virginia Governor’s Cup Gold medal, this wine is made with a French grape that originated in southwest France and is famous for being deep, dark, and full-bodied. This wine is 100% Tannat grown by our Williams Gap vineyard partner. It features ripe red, black, and blueberry fruit flavors together with some smoked meat, cocoa, and cedar with a satisfyingly long finish that exhibits the flavorful tannins for which Tannat is so well known. This wine should age well for several years. Pair with a traditional cassoulet or grilled meats.

2017 CINQ 8
Our 8th version of Cinq is a five-varietal blend of 50% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Franc, 10%Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Tannat, and 4% Petit Verdot. Garnet in color, it features pomegranate, clove, roses, cranberry, and fennel on the nose. Soft, dark fruit on the palate with kicky-but-smooth tannins that offer a satisfying finish.
