Our Team

Jim and Betsy Dolphin: Jim began his obsession with making wine in 1998 as a home winemaker and by 2005 he was making 28 different wines in the basement of their home. It was time to make the step and find land to grow grapes and start living the dream. After an exhaustive search of land in several counties the current location of the vineyards and winery was purchased in 2007. Jim’s immediately began reaching out to Virginia growers to purchase fruit. Criteria was important to him in that  the vineyard management had to meet the standards for making outstanding wine. Low yields and meticulous viticulture management. Jim and Betsy have worked together on every phase of the development of Delaplane Cellars over the past nine years.
Jessica Huseby: A flight attendant on furlough looking for something interesting to do quickly became our Tasting Room Manager. Her training as a flight attendant made her the perfect candidate for this position. Cool and calm under pressure with incredible customer service skills. In 2017 Jessica moved into the role of Club Manager for all the clubs.
Rumaldo Chavez: Rumaldo joined our team in May of 2012 and was promoted to Vineyard Manager in April of 2013. As Vineyard Manager, Rumaldo is responsible for overseeing the vineyard operations at Delaplane’s twelve acre, 15,000 vine estate vineyards.   Rumaldo has worked in the Virginia wine industry for more than 16 years and brings a vast knowledge of viticulture to our team.
Most of our Wine Consultants are part-time and come from various businesses in the Washington DC area. They enjoy pouring wine in our tasting room as it affords them an opportunity to continue their education on wine and food and meet interesting people visiting our winery.
